The election is over and it’s time to make it count. Grassroots power is not just for elections.

Congress has until December 31st to make a critical and historic choice. They can ask the richest 2% of Americans to pay their fair share, or they can put more money in wealthy pockets at the expense of the struggling middle class.

There is too much money and power in too few hands and the system is rigged to keep it that way. It’s time to level the playing field. It’s time to make things right.

The first step is telling Congress, loud and clear: Don’t give more tax breaks to the people who need them least.

Yesterday was The Election. Today is The Action.

The Action is a grassroots movement that demands Congress end the Bush-era tax cuts for the richest 2%—those making more than $250,000 per year. The Action is for critical investments that create and sustain jobs.

SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS TOOK ACTION

Over the past few months, small business owners joined The Action in huge numbers. These are a few of our favorite actions.

More than 2000 entrepreneurs signed a letter urging Congress to extend tax cuts for the middle class and end them for the richest 2%.

New York State business owners worked with local activist to rally for tax fairness.

Small business owners and concerned citizens in Raleigh, North Carolina spent the National Day of Action writing letters to their members of Congress.

A Pittsburgh Republican explained that 97% of small businesses have a bottom line under $250,000.

“There are a lot of people in here who in small business but I don’t think any of us in small businesses have a bottom line where we’re making over $250,000. It really won’t negatively affect these small businesses.”

Thanks to these efforts, Congress extended tax cuts for 98% of Americans and 97% of small businesses. But our efforts are far from over. Call your member of Congress and tell them what you think of their vote on the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012.

FLASHBACK: THE NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

On December 1st, folks across the country joined together for our first first National Day of Action, organizing over 100 events in 30 states less than one month after the election.

Read about some of our favorite actions, and then call your representative and tell them what you think of their vote on the fiscal cliff bill.

Activists made news in Grand Junction, Colorado.

In California, the numbers tell the tale: 15,000 calls. 464 volunteers. 38 phone banks from San Francisco to San Diego.

Small business owners and concerned citizens in Raleigh, North Carolina spent the Day of Action writing letters to their representatives in Congress.

Tennesseans described what $2,200 in tax cuts would mean for them, from investing in small business to paying for children’s tuition.

Bostonians braved the weather to send a message to Senator Scott Brown: Put the middle class ahead of millionaires.

Activists in Beacon, New York, hung a banner on Interstate 84 encouraging citizens to call their representatives.

Small business owners and activists explained the importance of taking action and supporting middle class families.

New Yorkers surprised Congressman Chris Gibson (R-NY) while he was visiting the Kingston Winter Farmers Market.

Tennesseans wrote letters to Congress to protect the middle class and let tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% expire.

In Corning, New York, business owners urged Congress to support the middle class.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness joined concerned Minnesotans at a Day of Action event

And who could forget: Iowans caroled for tax fairness.
