The Action

To end the Bush tax cuts
for the richest two percent

About

The election is over and it’s time to make it count. Grassroots power is not just for elections.

Congress has until December 31st to make a critical and historic choice. They can ask the richest 2% of Americans to pay their fair share, or they can put more money in wealthy pockets at the expense of the struggling middle class.

There is too much money and power in too few hands and the system is rigged to keep it that way. It’s time to level the playing field. It’s time to make things right.

The first step is telling Congress, loud and clear: Don’t give more tax breaks to the people who need them least.

Yesterday was The Election. Today is The Action.

The Action is a grassroots movement that demands Congress end the Bush-era tax cuts for the richest 2%—those making more than $250,000 per year. The Action is for critical investments that create and sustain jobs.

It’s time to join The Action.

DID YOUR CONGRESSMAN DO THE RIGHT THING?

Thanks to your efforts, we have extended tax cuts for working families and preserved tax credits and unemployment assistance relied upon by millions. Make no mistake about it: The credit goes to the American people who made their voices heard, not the politicians in Washington resisting every step of the way.

Eventually, many House members came to their senses and the bill passed 257 votes to 167. There is no excuse for the fact that Congress waited until the 11th hour to do what most Americans considered a no-brainer: Extending tax cuts for the middle class and ending them for the wealthiest Americans.

Find out whether or not your member of Congress took action and stood up for the middle class. Then, tell them what you think of their decision.

“YOU MADE YOUR VOICES HEARD”

After signing the fiscal cliff agreement, President Obama addressed the American people to express the importance of what we accomplished.

“My top priority has been preventing a tax hike that would have hit 98% of all Americans in 2013. Because the last thing middle class families could afford right now would be to pay upwards of 2000 dollars more in taxes this year.”

He made it clear that our voices helped to achieve that goal.

Thanks to so many of you – because you made your voices heard throughout this debate – we’ve stopped that middle class hike.”

He also explained that we didn’t just stop a middle class tax hike and raise taxes on the richest 2% of Americans.

“We extended tax credits for families with children and tuition tax credits that are helping millions of families pay for college. We extended tax credits for clean energy companies…and we extended unemployment insurance for 2 million Americans who are actively looking for a job.”

Thank you for being a part of this effort and helping to extend tax relief for working families across the country. Stay tuned for new ways to continue making your voices heard.
